Fulbright-Formosa Plastics Group Scholarship, for Professionals

 

 

 

§ Description and Purpose

Up to 1 Fulbright partial grants for non-academic professionals is offered to mid-career professionals working in government or private organizations in Early Intervention or Geriatric Health Promotion, who wish to take part in a learning project. The purpose is to enhance their professional expertise through visits, observation, formal study (non-degree), or participation in training sessions in the United States for 3 months to 10 months.

 

§ Benefits (Up to 1 award):

  • A fixed sum from US$3,600 to US$12,000, paid in US dollars and prorated over the grant period
  • Book allowance US$3,000
  • Possible placement services by IIE

§ Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants are eligible who are or have:

  • 1. Senior employee (level 9+ in government service) of private or public organizations.
  • 2. Responsibilities related to the proposed project for at least 5 years
  • 3. Are recommended by the highest chief administrator of the home institution (please use the Approval Form included in the Application Instruction downloaded here: http://www.fulbright.org.tw/application).
  • 4. Sufficient English proficiency for successful completion of grant activity. (if the applicant plans to take a course in a university, an iBT score report of 80 or IELTS score of 6.5 should be submitted; if the applicant plans to do some research, English proficiency certificate is still required and standardized tests such as iBT, IELTS, TOEIC or GEPT are recommended)
  • 5. Sufficient of financial support for the visit plan (including tuition, travel expenses and roughly monthly expenses $1,500). Applicants have to provide evidence of financial support from personal savings and/or institutional contributions to cover remaining expenses for the duration of the proposed study/ research.

Applicants are ineligible who:
1. Are currently teaching, studying, or conducting research in the U.S.
2. Have returned to Taiwan from the U.S. less than 3 years from the time of application.
3. Have received a J-1 visa in the category of Professor/Research Scholar within the past 2 years. They cannot be issued another J-1 visa in the category of Professor/ Research Scholar.


Candidates are not permitted to pursue degree study during the grant period.
The duration of grants ranges from 3 to 10 months. The grants must begin no earlier than August 1, 2020. They must end no later than August 31, 2021. The grant should not use for different stages.

During the grant period, grantee must submit a research/ reflections report to FSE Online Journal (http://journal.fulbright.org.tw/).

 

§ Application Procedure

Apply online no later than October 31, 2019. For application

Submit the hard copy of following required documents to Fulbright Taiwan, postmarked no later than 
October 31, 2019.
• Hard copies of your completed on-line application form (filled in English, including application form, 
project statement, English CV, highest chief administrator approval form, financial statement of other 
grants/ scholarships which will be used in the same period of Fulbright grant, and passport copy)
• Chinese CV (the translation version of your English CV with your cell phone number and mailing 
address
. We’ll deliver the notification letter via post mail after the nomination list is confirmed.)
• 3 English recommendation letters (if your referees do not want to complete recommendation letters 
online)

§ Selection Procedure

In early
December 
In early December, a Selection Committee (academic peers from a variety of disciplines, Board 
members, and staff) reviews all documents and research proposals and recommends a slate for final selection by Fulbright Taiwan’s Board. 
At the end 
of December
● Applicants are notified by Fulbright Taiwan of nomination/non-nomination by the end of December after the Board meeting. Their nomination is also sent to J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship 
Board (FFSB).
● The grant is then subject to:
a. Approval by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB)
b. Acceptance of the candidate's research proposal by a U.S. institution 
April of the 
following year 
Final approval is then normally received by Fulbright Taiwan in April and conveyed to grantees as 
soon as received.
*Please be noted that all Taiwan grantees travel to U.S. must hold a J-type visa for academic and
