FSE Mandarin Educator Award

Description And Purpose

FSE Mandarin Educator Awards provide qualified TCSL educators with the opportunity to serve as TCSL private instructors for the FSE-Mandarin Enrichment Award (MEA) grantee. Instructors work with Fulbright American Master’s Degree Program (English taught and Chinese taught) grantees, who receive 12 weeks of support for intensive Mandarin study (5hours per week). As language teaching professional instructors, FSE Mandarin Educators enhance the Master’s Degree Program students’ Mandarin learning through private tutoring and cultural activities. The grant period is 12 weeks, starting from October 27, 2025 to January 18, 2026. Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) alumni are preferred when all factors are equal.

Responsibilities & Expectations

Grants: up to 13 awards (5 hours per week to teach 1 student)

  1. Locations of American Master’s Degree Program students:
  • Taipei: up to 8 
  • Hsinchu City: up to 3
  • Hualien: up to 1
  • Kaohsiung: up to 1
  1. Teaching hours: 5 hours in-person class per week, for 12 weeks (October 27, 2025 – January 16, 2026; must be completed by January 31, 2026 at the latest).
  2. Participation Obligations: Attend FSE-organized training sessions, workshops, and teaching meetings. Submit a personal reflection to the Fulbright Journal of Research and Reflection and share teaching plan on FSE’s Mandarin Teaching Resources website).
  3. Teaching Plans: Submit a teaching plan and student learning feedback report every four weeks; record class progress on Google Classroom.
  4. Cultural Activity: Plan and lead at least one cultural learning activity (not counted toward language instruction hours
  5. Testing: Assist students in taking the TOCFL Quick Placement Test as both a pre-test and post-test.
  6. Final Project: Support students in preparing a final learning showcase (tentatively January 19, 2026), and share teaching materials for peer exchange.
  7. Final Report: Upload a comprehensive teaching summary report.

Benefits

  1. A fixed sum of NT$60,000 (teaching 1 student) for 12-week teaching
  2. An additional allowance of NT$5,000 for organizing cultural activities or making teaching materials (reimbursement will be done per request with receipts)
  3. Professional Opportunities: Awardees will have opportunities to interact with Fulbright grantees and local professors, and may receive support to attend relevant conferences and workshops organized by FSE.
  4. Extension Possibility: Teachers with strong performance may be invited to continue in the spring semester (16 weeks, February–June 2026)

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants with a Bachelor’s (or above) degree and TCSL teaching experience are eligible who:

  1. currently engage in TCSL instruction in any country, including Taiwan
  1. are fluent Mandarin speakers
  2. Fulbright FLTA alumni are preferred when all factors are equal
  3. Applicants who have already received the FSE Mandarin Teacher Award for two years in a row are NOT eligible

Complete the application form and upload the following required documents no later than Septmebr 22, 2025

Recommendation letters should be sent directly by the recommender to fse@fulbright.org.tw

Please provide 2 PDF file with the video

  1. A Statement of Purpose and Teaching Planning in Mandarin and English (max. 6 pages in A4)
  2. Bilingual CV (with your cell phone number or easy-to-be contacted number, and email address)
  3. Two recommendation letters in English or Mandarin (TCSL and/or academic experience related)
  4. Bachelor’s degree or higher diploma and transcript (English version) scanned from the original.
  5. A 2-minute video in Mandarin expressing your perspective and analysis on “Mandarin and Culture.” The video must clearly show you on screen.
 
Teaching plan should be designed for a beginner-level, 60-hour one-on-one course, including teaching progress, objectives, approaches, strategies, learning materials, lesson design, use of technology, and cultural components.

The Selection Committee will review all application documents and notify the candidates for an official bilingual interview by email.

Interview results will be released on Monday, Ocotber 20, 2025.

Selected awardee should participate the online orientation between Oct 20-24.
