Chinese Workshop at Boston University

Hsiao-Wen Su, a 2018-19 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) grantee, just finished her 9-month exchange at Boston University in Massachusetts. Ms. Su worked closely with the Chinese Program and talked in a series of cultural workshops to introduce Hakka culture and Taiwanese folk arts. The workshops opened with historical context and then focused on Hakka traditions, glove puppet theatre, and shadow puppet theatre. DIY sessions were integrated into all three workshops, including painting paper umbrellas, making puppets, and writing scripts, bringing rich and lively learning experiences to the students.
