SPEAKER

Dr. Joshua K. Swift, 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Senior Scholar

Dr. Joshua K. Swift is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology at Idaho State University. Through his research, he seeks to identify means to encourage mental health treatment seeking in those with mental health needs, facilitate treatment completion for those who begin psychotherapy, and help improve client outcomes while in treatment. For his Fulbright project, he completed a Visiting Associate Professor position at National Taiwan Normal University, including both teaching and research components.

SUMMARY

In this presentation, Dr. Swift will describe the results of his teaching and research activities at National Taiwan Normal University. This will include a description of highlights from two courses – an undergraduate course on self-awareness and growth and a graduate course on the effectiveness of counseling and psychotherapy. It will also include a presentation of preliminary results from two research projects – one investigating attitudes and preferences toward psychotherapy in K-12 teachers in Taiwan and another investigating university students’ attitudes toward professors’ disclosures of mental health treatment use.
