Fulbright Talk: Nourished by Tea and Culture in Taiwan

“To me, Taiwan is a paradise.” Dr. Hong Jiang, Professor of the University of Hawaii at Manoa exclaimed.

FSE proudly hosted the first Fulbright Talks Series of this year- through the topic of “Nourished by Tea and Culture in Taiwan,” Dr. Hong Jiang, 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Senior Scholar Grantee/Professor of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, shared her insights gained from the field on the cultural geography of Taiwan’s high-mountain tea (gaoshancha).

Over the course of her grant period, Dr. Jiang visited different tea fields in Alishan, obtaining first-hand observations of how the tealeaves were processed through a series of meticulous procedures. From her presentation, all participants were able to realize how passionate that Dr. Jiang is.

To accommodate this event, FSE also prepared Alishan high mountain tea and traditional Taiwanese pastries for our audience.
