>> Celebration of 50 years Fulbright in Taiwan, November 30, 2007

A Gala Dinner on November 30, 2007, celebrating Fifty Years of Fulbright in Taiwan.

I am grateful for the Fulbright experience as it has given me the opportunity to work on this project for an extended period, allowing me time to explore and follow new paths of research, something which was lacking in previous research, when I was limited to spending 2 months during summer vacations. .. My youngest child has attended a local primary school. When we arrived she understood and could speak only a few phrases of Chinese. Now she speaks Chinese fluently and has learned so much! Her bilingualism is an an invaluable skill that is increasingly recognized by educators and business community members in the United States, and something we hope to foster in the years to come.-2007-2008 Fulbright Senior Researcher

My Fulbright experience helped me to meet and exchange ideas with a large number of other scholars and students; mostly Taiwanese, but also including other foreign students and visiting scholars in Taiwan. It was also wonderful to have a full ten months without any major obligations other than my dissertation research; I was able to get a lot of work done.-2007-2008 Fulbright Junior Researcher

This was the first time that my students were exposed to someone who had darker skin, not to mention someone who came from a mixed-race family. Showing pictures and telling stories about my family history really opened their eyes, and sparked great discussion about "the people of the United States." -2007-2008 Fulbright ETA
