Orphans of the Earth: Ecological Crisis and Local Imagination in Contemporary Taiwanese Poetry

Dr. Brian Skerratt

How can poetry respond to ecological crisis? As Taiwan’s poetry scene increasingly focused on
environmental issues in the early 2010s, a new relationship of text and soil emerged.

Brian Skerratt received his PhD from Harvard University, specializing in modern and contemporary poetry in Chinese. His recent publications include “Hsia Yü Buys a Computer” and “Zhu Guangqian and the Rhythm of New Poetry.” His translations of Macanese writer Un Sio San’s poetry, Naked Picnic, are published by CUHK Press.

Your participation will enrich the program by enhancing the diversity of perspectives and content. Please reply by May 2, 2017 to confirm your attendance at email: jwu@fulbright.org.tw. Thank you!

We are looking forward to seeing you at the presentation.
